Power Restored Quickly After Bowden Outage on Saturday Morning

A power outage disrupted the town of Bowden early on Saturday, leaving over 1,000 residents without electricity. According to FortisAlberta, the outage, which occurred around 7 a.m., was caused by equipment failure. Fortunately, the majority of the affected homes and businesses saw power restored within an hour, though three customers experienced a longer wait as repairs were completed.

Peter Brodsky, the manager of public affairs for FortisAlberta, confirmed that a total of 1,057 customers were impacted. By 8 a.m., service had resumed for nearly everyone, except for the final three customers, whose power was restored after necessary repairs were finished. Brodsky noted that the outage was unrelated to a similar incident that took place in the area about two weeks earlier.

Brodsky emphasized that while FortisAlberta regularly inspects and maintains its equipment to minimize disruptions, unexpected failures can still occur. "Our priority in these situations is to reroute power and repair the affected equipment as swiftly and safely as possible," he said.

Bowden Mayor Robb Stuart weighed in on the situation, noting that power outages in the town are infrequent and typically short-lived. "While they do happen occasionally, they’re not as frequent or as prolonged as they used to be," Stuart stated. He added that recent technological advancements and remote monitoring have significantly reduced downtime, and praised the quick response of service providers like Atco and Fortis in addressing any issues.

While the cause of the recent outage was pinpointed to equipment failure, residents can take comfort in the fact that the power was restored quickly, keeping the disruption to a minimum.
