Art Exhibit in Olds Celebrates the Natural Beauty of Mountain View County
A Showcase of Local Talent
From August 1 to September 15, the Mountain View Museum Art Gallery in Olds is hosting a captivating exhibit that brings the stunning landscapes of Mountain View County to life. Titled Wild Art, this collection features the creative works of local photographers and artists, all of whom were inspired by the region's breathtaking scenery, rich wildlife, and cultural heritage. These artworks are not just a feast for the eyes—they also offer visitors the chance to take a piece of this beauty home, with many pieces available for purchase.
A Unique Collaboration
The exhibit is the result of a fruitful partnership between the Legacy Land Trust Society (LLTS) and the Mountain View Museum & Archives. The two organizations came together to spotlight the natural wonders of the LLTS Smith conservation easement property, located in the Eagle Hill area along the Little Red Deer River. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to preserving and celebrating the area's environmental and cultural richness.
Rebecca Neilsen, the executive director of LLTS, emphasized the importance of this partnership, saying, “Collaboration allows our organizations to draw on each other’s expertise, to amplify our message by sharing information with a wider audience, and increase local awareness of our program.” This synergy between the LLTS and the museum has not only resulted in a stunning exhibit but has also strengthened the community’s connection to its natural surroundings.
Art Inspired by Nature
The artworks on display were created during and after a special event called Paint, Pen & Pixels, which took place on June 1 at the Smith conservation easement property. Seven talented artists spent the day immersed in the landscape, drawing inspiration from the rolling hills, vibrant flora, and diverse wildlife that characterize the area. The result is a collection of pieces that truly capture the essence of Mountain View County.
Each artwork reflects the unique perspective of the artist, offering visitors a diverse range of interpretations of the natural world. From detailed photography to expressive paintings, the exhibit showcases the incredible talent within the local artistic community.
Supporting Conservation Through Art
Not only is this exhibit a celebration of natural beauty, but it also serves a greater purpose. Many of the artists have pledged to donate a portion, if not all, of the proceeds from the sale of their work back to the Legacy Land Trust Society. This generous gesture will help further the society’s mission of conserving and protecting the ecological, agricultural, and heritage lands in central Alberta.
The Legacy Land Trust Society is a registered non-profit charity that plays a crucial role in the conservation of natural areas in the region. By creating environmental easements and promoting stewardship, the society works tirelessly to ensure that the natural beauty of Mountain View County can be enjoyed by future generations.
A Celebration of Community
The Mountain View Museum & Archives, located at 5038 - 50 Street in Uptown Olds, has long been a hub for local culture and history. The museum’s manager, Chantal Marchildon, expressed her enthusiasm for the exhibit, saying, “We are always delighted to work with amazing and talented central Alberta artists. Mountain View Museum & Archives is proud to collaborate with Legacy Land Trust to present their Wild Art show. Our gallery supports local artists with shows and sales.”
This exhibit is just one example of how the museum continues to support and promote local talent while also fostering a deeper connection between the community and its natural surroundings. By bringing together art, conservation, and community, the Wild Art exhibit offers a unique opportunity for visitors to engage with the beauty and heritage of Mountain View County.
