Innisfail Church Kicks Off School Supplies Drive for Kids

Community Block Party and BBQ Set for August 17

INNISFAIL — As summer begins to wind down, the Innisfail Church of the Nazarene is rallying the community for a heartwarming cause: gathering school supplies for local children in need. With the pressures of a tough economy and rising living costs, the church aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens families face as the new school year approaches.

How You Can Help

From now until August 30, the church has set up donation drop boxes at various locations throughout Innisfail. You can find these boxes at:

  • Dark Woods Brewing
  • Innisfail Public Library
  • Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion No. 104
  • No Frills
  • Co-op (grocery location only)

More businesses are encouraged to join this initiative by hosting a drop-off box. Each participating location will receive a distinctive donation box to make it easy for community members to contribute.

What to Donate

The collected school supplies will be distributed to families in need through Γ‰cole John Wilson Elementary School. They have provided a list of essential items that are most needed, including:

  • Pencils
  • White erasers
  • Packs of 24 Crayola wax crayons
  • Packs of 24 Crayola pencil crayons
  • Pencil sharpeners with containers
  • Headphones (no earbuds)
  • Glue sticks
  • Crayola “Twistables” or “PipSqueaks”
  • Zippered pencil cases
  • Kids’ lunch kits

Community Support and First Donations

Mayor Jean Barclay has already kicked off the drive with the first school supply donation on July 26, setting an example and encouraging others to follow suit. Her contribution underscores the importance of community involvement in supporting local families.

Join the Fun: Block Party and Barbecue

Mark your calendars for August 17, when the Innisfail Church of the Nazarene will host a vibrant community block party from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in their parking lot. This event offers a perfect chance to drop off school supplies while enjoying a fun-filled afternoon. The block party will feature:

  • A free barbecue
  • Exciting activities for kids
  • Door prizes

Businesses are also welcome to contribute door prizes for the event, adding an extra layer of excitement and community spirit.

Get Involved

Local businesses interested in participating in the school drive, either by providing a drop-off location or contributing a door prize, can contact Pete at 403-358-2207 for more details.

This initiative by the Innisfail Church of the Nazarene is more than just a school supplies drive; it’s a demonstration of community solidarity and support for local families. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of children preparing for the new school year. So, as you go about your summer activities, consider picking up a few extra school supplies and dropping them off at one of the convenient locations around town.

Together, we can ensure that every child in Innisfail starts the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
