Major Energy Efficiency Boosts for Recreational Facilities in Olds and Foothills County
Federal Funding Fuels Green Upgrades
The Olds Aquatic Centre and the Scott Seaman Sports Rink in Foothills County are set to undergo significant energy efficiency upgrades, thanks to a $3.9 million investment from the federal government. This funding is part of the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program, with the Town of Olds contributing an additional $400,000.
Enhancing Community Spaces for the Future
Olds Mayor Judy Dahl expressed the importance of these upgrades, highlighting the long-term benefits for the community. “This investment in the Olds Aquatic Centre not only improves the energy efficiency of the facility but also ensures it remains a safe, modern space for our residents to enjoy for many years,” she said.
A Sustainable Makeover for Olds Aquatic Centre
The planned upgrades for the Olds Aquatic Centre are designed to extend the facility's lifespan by another 20 years. Key improvements include the installation of high-efficiency boilers, enhanced air handling units to boost ventilation, and upgraded hot water plumbing. Additionally, the facility will receive a new roof and windows, further contributing to its energy efficiency.
These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to reduce the environmental impact of community buildings while ensuring they continue to serve as vital hubs for recreation and wellness. With these upgrades, both Olds and Foothills County are taking important steps towards a more sustainable future.
