Recent Rainfall Leads to Lift of Fire Bans in Mountain View County and Sundre
After recent rains provided much-needed relief and favorable forecasts, officials in Mountain View County announced that the total fire ban has been lifted as of Tuesday, August 6. This welcome news was shared on the county’s website, stating, "Please note that the fire ban previously in effect for Mountain View County was lifted effective August 6. There is currently no fire restriction nor fire ban in place."
Sundre Follows Suit
The town of Sundre quickly followed Mountain View County's lead. Ross Clews, Chief of the Sundre Fire Department, confirmed the change on Wednesday, August 7. “Yesterday morning, we removed the fire ban because of the precipitation we received and the forecast going forward,” Clews explained. Expressing his relief, he added with a laugh, “I love the rain. The rain is very welcome and we need it; not only to prevent fires, but for agricultural purposes as well.”
Didsbury's Precautionary Measures
In contrast, the town of Didsbury continues to enforce its fire ban, which was enacted on Tuesday. This ban, along with water restrictions, remains in place as a precautionary measure while a part of the town’s water system undergoes maintenance over the next few weeks.
