Olds College and Farm Credit Canada Extend Partnership to Drive Agricultural Innovation
Olds College and Farm Credit Canada (FCC) have decided to continue their successful partnership for another five years, solidifying their commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and research. The partnership, which originally began in 2019, has been a catalyst for growth in the ag sector, and its renewal marks a significant milestone for both institutions.
A Strategic Alliance for the Future
The announcement of the partnership extension was made during AgSmart, Olds College’s annual showcase of cutting-edge agricultural practices and technology. The collaboration between Olds College and FCC has already made substantial impacts, with both parties eager to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the industry.
Olds College's vice-president of development, Todd Ormann, highlighted the unique role that FCC plays in supporting not only their own business but the entire agriculture sector. He emphasized that FCC’s AgExpert division is uniquely tailored to meet the needs of Western Canadian farmers, including specialized groups like potato growers.
Joy Agnew, the college’s vice-president of research, echoed these sentiments, praising FCC’s financial backing as crucial to the college’s ability to explore critical issues in agriculture. She pointed out that FCC's support allows Olds College to develop practical, real-world solutions that benefit producers directly, such as best management practices for marginal crop land.
A Partnership that Delivers Results
Agnew stressed that without FCC’s involvement, many of these innovative projects would not be possible. “FCC’s partnership is a game-changer for Olds College. Their financial support, combined with their strategic vision and commitment to collaboration, is propelling us forward in our mission to advance ag research and education,” she said.
On FCC’s side, Mohammed Yaghi, vice-president of AgExpert and the Innovation Hub, expressed pride in their collaboration with Olds College. He noted that Smart Farms, like the one at Olds College, are key to enhancing Canada’s agricultural efficiency and competitiveness. This shared vision is what motivated FCC to renew the partnership, as they see it as an essential part of solving the most pressing challenges in the ag sector.
Yaghi acknowledged the significant strides made by Olds College since the partnership’s inception, particularly in developing new technologies and innovative agricultural practices. He is confident that the next phase of their collaboration will lead to even greater contributions to the industry.
A New Chapter Begins
In recognition of the partnership’s impact, the college’s Smart Farm Operations Centre has been renamed the FCC Smart Farm Operations Centre. After the announcement, attendees were invited to visit the newly renamed facility to see the updated signage and take a tour.
The extension of this partnership signals a continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of agricultural research and education. As Olds College and FCC move forward together, the future of farming in Canada looks brighter than ever.
