Grizzly Bear Attack Leaves Man Severely Injured Near Calgary
A man was rushed to the hospital with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries after a grizzly bear attack northwest of Calgary on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred in Rocky View County, roughly 50 kilometers from Calgary, when the man encountered a grizzly bear sow. Authorities believe the bear was protecting her cubs at the time of the attack.
First responders, including Alberta RCMP, Alberta Fish and Wildlife, and EMS, arrived on the scene around 10:20 a.m., near the intersection of Range Road 34 and Township Road 274. The injured man was promptly transported to Foothills Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The situation serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of wildlife encounters in areas surrounding Calgary, especially during times when animals are more likely to be defensive, such as when protecting their young.
